Come Join the Choir!

A new Teddington-based choir is encouraging locals to experience the fun and many health benefits of singing. The Teddingtones Community Choir, which holds weekly rehearsals, is audition-free and open to singers of all abilities who want to enjoy a wide repertoire of songs from Elgar to Britney and make friends along the way.

Directed by local mum and vocal coach, Laura Luck, the choir is a fresh, new initiative designed to bring people together again after the many Covid restrictions. Laura previously led a parent choir at Newland House School, but sadly the pandemic meant rehearsals had to move online and were eventually disbanded.

‘We had a small group of really committed people, so I was determined to get a choir up and running as soon as restrictions eased,’ explains Laura. ‘We put our heads together and agreed it would be fantastic to create a larger choir welcoming all members of the community. We’re also keen to attract more tenors, baritones and basses! After the past 20 months, we know how isolated many people have felt, so it’s just great to finally launch The Teddingtones and get singing together again.’

The choir is grateful to Newland House School on Waldegrave Park, which is kindly lending its hall for the weekly rehearsals on Wednesday evenings. The emphasis is on fun and friendship but there will be regular performance opportunities throughout the year and the chance to learn a whole range of songs including classical, pop and musical theatre.

With a wealth of evidence pointing to the health benefits of singing – one recent study by Dr Daisy Fancourt showed that singing in a group for just one hour can boost the immune system – The Teddingtones is inviting choir wannabees to come along for a free trial session.
