Let’s Go Outside & Learn is a Twickenham based Community Interest Company that delivers nature based projects across the London Boroughs of Richmond and Hounslow.
The organisation uses nature to promote wellbeing and help tackle social isolation.
Let’s Go Outside & Learn works across all age groups including families and schools, however, since Covid 19, the main focus of their work has been with adults.
Let’s Go Outside & Learn have once again started leading outdoor sessions in LB of Richmond. Stroll & Chat sessions are taking place every Wednesday from 11am. The sessions are 45 mins long and allow individuals to join a social group and take a gentle stroll at their own pace.
Recent sessions have taken place on Barnes Common and in York House Gardens. Anyone can join but they must pre-book to avoid going over the recommended number.
For individuals who cannot go outside, there has been opportunity to take part in a range of other activities from the comfort and safety of indoors.
Frances Bennett, a director of LGOAL explains the concept behind the Outside Inside project catering for clients who are unable to go out. “There are weekly group telephone chats and newsletters with ideas for activities. Project participants have been keeping connected sharing photos, recipes and experiences. They have laughed together, shared their fears but also their joys and made new friends through the project which aims to bring people together.”
Mairi McLeod also a director of LGOAL told us “Another element of our work was to take nature to people who could not go outside or did not have a garden. Growing kits have been delivered to over 100 participants including residents of local care homes.”
Here’s what one of the care home managers had to say:
“The tenants are delighted with their plants. We have now created a herb garden with some of them, as a few tenants needed help and decided to work jointly on it. I was very happy when we received the plants and seeing the joy it has brought my tenants, makes me even happier.”
Let’s Go Outside & Learn also recently conducted research into the importance of nature for wellbeing. The results show that now more than ever, people are using nature for a range of health and wellbeing benefits. The report can be found on the website.
If you would like to get involved in or know someone or a group of people who might benefit any way please get in touch.
