Teddington Is a Very Special Place

Following the unexpected death of my husband, the Fabric House coming up for sale was a lifeline, and it gave me the opportunity to find a new focus for my life. I was already working part-time for the existing owner, and looking back, I do feel a sense of being in the right place at the right time.

The business was originally a franchise, but as an independent, I was able to take the opportunity to expand the range of suppliers and update the stock available, both fabric and accessories, adding ribbons, trimmings, and poles, to enhance the finished product.

A new business requires an enthusiastic and knowledgeable team of staff. The team has changed over the many years of the business, with some who have been here from the beginning and others who have found their feet and gone on to develop their own careers in the industry. They have all been united in their enthusiasm and commitment to the business, and their knowledge and customer support have proved invaluable.

Over the last 20+ years, we have seen the expansion of customer needs, from the updating of individual rooms, especially in the run up to Christmas, to the redevelopment of whole houses, with specific design requirements. Growth in the interior design market has enabled the development of relationships with other symbiotic businesses. This has given us the benefit of seeing a project all the way through to its conclusion.

So, it is with immense regret that, with increasing age and failing health, I have come to the decision to withdraw from the market place, and hang up my scissors and tape measure.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our customers, many of whom have supported us over the years with repeat business as they have moved around the borough, some even returning when they have moved some distance away. It has been a pleasure to meet you all.

Over the shop’s lifetime, it has been loyally supported by father-and-son team, Ray and Chris, who have measured, fitted tracks, and hung curtains and blinds, offering advice to customers and showing our finished products to their best advantage.

Chris will continue to offer such a service and can be reached on his mobile: 07706 404470.

I would also like to thank Lisa and her team at Star Curtains, based in Suffolk, who have made all of the beautiful curtains that adorn the houses of Teddington, and beyond.

Barry and Tracy, of Hardy’s Blinds, thank you for your beautifully finished, handmade roman blinds – a truly bespoke product.

The business will shut its doors for the final time on Saturday 29th August, but until then, we will continue to offer a bespoke curtain and blind making service, seeing all projects through to completion, even if this falls beyond the date of the shop’s closure.
Once again, thank you to everyone for all of your support over the years – Teddington is a very special place.

Valerie and Team
