Teddington Lights Up: A Community Celebration

The annual Teddington Christmas Lights Up event returns to Teddington on Thursday 25 November in all its former festive glory. In its fifteenth year, the evening is a time for the community to come together, support local business and get into the Christmas spirit.

This year’s event promises all the family festive favourites with stalls lining the streets offering crafts, children’s competitions, face painting, food tasting and, of course, mulled wine. The High Street and Church Road will be closed to traffic at 3pm and the official turning on of the lights ceremony takes place at 6:30pm. The beautiful 25ft Norwegian tree and Lights Up stage will be located on the High Street at the end of Elmfield Avenue.

Businesses from across Teddington are taking part in the festivities with trees, lights and decorations being added for the first time on Stanley Road, as well as the regular locations on Church Road and the High Street. Park Road and the Causeway will also be embracing the Christmas spirit. The last couple of years have been tough for many local independent businesses at the heart of Teddington, and the Lights Up evening is a great opportunity to show support for the traders’ community with some late-night shopping and dining out.

Church Road will once again host a live music stage and stalls, while the Teddington Constitutional Club on Stanley Road will hold a Christmas craft fair with local crafters – a great chance to pick up some locally made Christmas gifts! At the other end of the High Street, the Landmark Arts Centre will be getting in the spirit with its gift shop open until 8pm and local crafts people and artists exhibiting. Look out for the Dragon Drama students with their flash mob performances in the woodlands and inside the centre!

Don’t forget to stop in at Happy Potter on Broad Street to take part in an elf workshop, where kids can design their own Christmas decorations, which will later be displayed on the Teddington High Street Christmas tree. Also back by popular demand, The Dress on the High Street will have live models in the windows showing off some of its beautiful new bridal collection.

Look out for lots of wonderful live performances to sing and dance along with on the main stage from the Popstar Performing Arts School, Stanley School Choir, Clarendon School Choir and Teddington Choir. The RNLI, Twickenham Fire Station, OKMT and The Salvation Army will also be there on the night with stands to highlight their local work and activities.

This year’s event has been organised by Teddington Together volunteers who have worked tirelessly throughout the year to ensure the fifteenth Teddington Lights Up event is bigger and better than ever. Funds for the event come from local trader donations, sponsors and Richmond Council, as well events held by Teddington Together throughout the year.

This year’s sponsors include four local businesses including The Park Hotel, which has sponsored the Christmas tree on the High Street; it will have a delicious burger shack on the High Street, a fire engine located outside The Park and the Salvation Army playing in the garden! Greenacre Financial Services (a mortgage broker) will be sponsoring the main stage; owners Sasha and Greg Stanworth live and work in the community and are delighted to be involved with such a special local event.  Family-run business Teddington Carpet Centre has been located on Broad Street for 59 years and is delighted to be sponsoring this great community event. Last but not least, Mel Franke, of Coversure Insurance Services (based on Stanley Road) will be sponsoring the Church Road stage and is looking forward to Teddington’s annual Christmas celebration.

We hope to see you there!
