Ann Sayer, who died in April, was a long time member of the Teddington Society and for nearly 20 years the Leader of our Riverside Group. An extraordinary athlete, she was a champion rower and an award winning long distance walker as well as a geologist, an environmentalist and usually the first to volunteer to help with anything to do with Teddington which she loved.
Looking for a way to commemorate her, what better than to respond to a request from the Teddington RNLI who approached us for funds. The Lifeboat always turns out for us, whether at the Village Fair or the Christmas Lights, so we opted to donate nearly a thousand pounds to buy them 10 Hi Viz Jackets suitable for their new lady recruits as their current ones are too large.
Andy Weston, the current Leader of our Riverside Group, presented our cheque using one of our litter pickers thoughtfully provided by Geoff Howland, Leader of our Environment Group, to Tim Ody, the Lifeboat Operations Manager who told us:
“We are honoured to accept this donation from the Teddington Society in memory of one of their members Ann Sayer MBE.
We know that Ann was very involved in the Riverside and Open Spaces of Teddington and it is a fitting memorial that this donation will be used
to provide new high vis jackets for our shore crew when launching our lifeboats from the riverside at RNLI Teddington. The RNLI is a charity and relies on the generosity and support of the public and we appreciate their support at this time”.
Maintaining 2m of separation are (L-R) Lifeboat Crew: Nicola Peters, Nicola Evered, Dominic Gregory & Gianna Saccomani at the Lifeboat Station, Fairmile House, 30 Twickenham Road, TW11 8AB.
