Teddington Supports Its Community Health Workers

The League of Friends of Teddington Memorial Hospital has a long and proud history of supporting our local hospital and the surrounding community. Therefore at this difficult time when the NHS teams working at the hospital and other health centres are facing such a huge challenge to maintain their support to the community and deal with the impact of corona virus the League’s trustees were determined to help.

After consultation with Hounslow and Richmond Community Healthcare NHS Trust, it was decided to create an emergency fund of £17,900 to cover the cost of daily meal deliveries to staff working at Teddington Memorial Hospital and Whitton Corner Health Centre for up to eight weeks. The meals are being prepared and delivered by Ruba Restaurant, Sidra Restaurant and The Abercorn Arms, Teddington. The scheme started on Wednesday 8th April and in the first week delivered 449 meals.

The League’s Chairman, Rev. Simon Douglas Lane said, “This is exactly what The League is here for, to support our local hospital in a time of need. We are pleased to stand alongside the hardworking NHS teams in Teddington and Whitton. They are our community’s front line against corona virus and it is because of the loyal support and generous donations to The League from the community that we are able to offer this support. It was also important to The League’s trustees to work with local businesses on this project as this is a tough time for all of us and we will get through it by supporting each other.”

The meal deliveries are making a difficult time for NHS staff a little bit easier. Anna McNulty- Howard, Clinical Service Manager at Teddington Memorial Hospital, said: “The food came just at the right moment and was very much appreciated on the inpatient unit.”

Donna Lamb, Director of Nursing and Non- Medical Professionals, added her thanks: “The food looks delicious – the nurses, therapists and all of the teams love this. Thank you so much to the League of Friends and all the local restaurants and suppliers who are donating the food.”
