Rugby podcasters Will and Michael Wood give us a round-up of Harlequins news…
February is always an important month in the rugby calendar. The jostling for position in the domestic leagues is becoming more and more crucial with each week, and the looming international period of the Six Nations campaign is always a fantastic time to be a TW resident.
Since our last entry, the boys have been on a brilliant 6 game winning streak with huge wins against Northampton, Gloucester and Exeter in consecutive weeks. A real marker on our play off hopes. Our women’s side also notching important victories over Wasps and Darlington Mowden Park. The showpiece event at Twickenham for Big Game 13, being a landmark day in women’s rugby. 9000 fans setting a record attendance for a club match, while also being shown live on BT Sport, the first regular season game to do so! An incredible day for our club. It really was special to be at. The men rounding off the day with a big win against Saints, in front of a 70,000 + audience at The Big Stoop.
January also marks the 1 Year Anniversary on Two Woods Four Quarters! Will and I can’t believe how far this lockdown project has come in the last 12 months, and make no mistake, we’re here to stay!
The next few weeks will be a crucial period in Europe and in the Gallagher Premiership in the absence of our England stars. Smith, Dombrandt, Marler, Marchant, and England new boy Luke Northmore will hopefully Wear The Rose in a successful campaign this spring. With Red Roses selection not far off either. A host of new contracts has given us a big boost and peaked the excitement for the future too. Will and I are both looking forward to getting back to the Stoop very soon after both coming down with post-Christmas bouts of Covid! We can’t wait to see you all there again and cheer on the club in the next few weeks of games!
COME ON YOU QUINS!!
