Looking for Motivation to Exercise?

Leon Williams, Fitness Manager at The Lensbury Club in Teddington, shares his tips for staying on track with your exercise routine.

Have the aspiring fitness resolutions you made at the start of the year faded into the background? Has fatigue set in? If like many others you find yourself struggling to stick to your 2022 routine, read on for my top tips to keep motivated and help you reach your long-term goals.

Are your goals realistic?

Setting a fitness plan withgoals you can attain is key if you want to achieve them this year. Each day is going to present its own unique set of obstacles, so take it one step at a time and focus on a series of smaller challenges you can accomplish, even if they do take longer. This will help keep you on track to achieve your objectives and keep you motivated throughout your journey.

‘Healthy Competition’

Through my experience, I have found that healthy competition is a key tool to staying active and hitting your targets – both short and medium term. Whether you are competing in yoga, spinning, weightlifting or running, there is nothing more satisfying than topping that leader board.

In March, The Lensbury Club hosted a ‘calorie burning’ competition to support members looking to build or improve their cardiovascular fitness. This is just one way we incorporate competition as a tool to encourage our members to stay on-track with their fitness goals.

Technology has evolved dramatically over the years and there are many fitness apps where you too can compete with friends or other enthusiasts (virtually) around the world. Nike Run Club, Fitbit and Pantheon apps are a few measuring tools to consider when trying to incorporate healthy competition as part of your fitness journey. So why not give it a try? Introduce a competitive edge to your workout now and watch your body push that little bit further.

Celebrate all the wins

Exercise should be a celebration of what you and your body can do, not a chore. Celebrate all the small wins and these will soon add up.

 You’re already great… be greater!
