Rowing Down The River

Spring has arrived and with lockdown easing, now is the time to get back into outdoor sports. And there’s no better way to get some exercise and meet new people than taking up skiffing.

Skiffs are classic wooden boats that glide through the water, offering you an opportunity to learn to row in a steady boat while enjoying the scenery along with River Thames in Teddington.  The Skiff Club is part of Teddington Watersports Centre, located off Broom Road by Teddington School.  Tucked away down Trowlock Way, the club offers learn-to-row courses for all, from complete beginners to those with water sports experience who just need a refresher to get back to rowing again. All ages from 15 to youthful retirees are welcome!

There are opportunities for those who want to improve their fitness with Saturday morning (and some weeknight) training on offer.  A weights gym and rowing machine rooms are included in the club membership.

Getting social

Once our social events can recommence, we have Thursday night dinners at the club and Sunday social skiffing trips to the pub between Richmond and Hampton Court.  Skiffing is also a great way to experience other rivers in the UK.  Every year we have extended skiffing expeditions over a long weekend to other parts of the country and abroad.

The regular season includes club racing events with other clubs and river fun days.  Come down and give us a try.

For more information and to book onto our learn-to-row courses, please email our club secretary, Mary Booth on
