Dan Benson, owner of Mint Hair and Spa in Twickenham, recently teamed up with his client Matt Sexton to raise more than £1,800 for Dementia UK.
Dan was a former cyclist for Team GB in the ’90s, but he chose to pursue the path of his other passion: hairdressing.
Since opening his salon in Church Street, Twickenham, he’d hung up his Lycra and did not even own a bike when the country was put into lockdown in March 2020.
Inspired by his client-turned-friend, Matt, he was encouraged to get back on the bike and, before he knew it, he’d committed to doing the London to Brighton ride to raise money for Dementia UK.
Dan says: “We have a few guests that come and see us whose lives have been impacted by dementia, and Matt lost his mother to vascular dementia. Therefore, we decided to raise money for Dementia UK.
“The training was tough and there were times when I wondered what we were thinking, but event day was actually so much fun. We’re so proud to have been able to help a great cause in the process.”
