Richmond Golf Club hosts Spring Charity Art Auction, backed by local star artists.
Question: What do celebrity portrait artist, Christian Furr, Illustrator Jane Hudspith and “Sketch Club” co-founder, Jonathan Barker, have in common?
Answer: They’re among the artists who have donated pieces to the “Spring Charity Art Auction”, hosted by Richmond Golf Club on Wednesday 25th March.
Christian Furr was just 28 when he was commissioned to paint an official portrait of the Queen and remains the youngest artist to have done so. His work has hung in the Saatchi Gallery, National Portrait Gallery and The Vatican and is in the private collections of (among others) Sir Peter Blake, Michael Caine and HRH the Duke of Edinburgh. Christian has donated a signed Artist’s Proof of ‘Richmond Hill at Sunset’.
Illustrator, Jane Hudspith, has worked on chil- dren’s books, poster campaigns and pieces for the V&A. From “Chicken Licken in Africa” to the “City Escape” and “Ceramic Poppies” her work features widely. Jane balances this with bringing art to life for children and adults alike with her Arts Clubhouse in Teddington and art clubs across local schools. Jane has donated “Blue Nude Reclining”; an acrylic, pastel and digital, Giclee print (1/20).
Jonathan Barker co-founded the Teddington Sketch Club, run from the iconic Boathouse. He has donated this sketch of Teddington Lock, which won the 2019 Diana Armfield RA Competition for drawing from observation.
These three works by local artists will be among the dozen highlighted lots of the evening from both local and national living artists. While the star of the show will undoubtedly be the much sought-after Christian Furr piece, entry level art will also be on sale.
