Beneath the ‘suburban skies’ of the London Borough of Richmond-upon-Thames there is an incredibly diverse and lively cultural life. My column is a new regular monthly platform to promote the arts in Twickenham. On 4th and 5th March St Mary’s University will be hosting a Festival of the Humanities, which includes Professor Sarah Churchwell delivering a keynote on ‘The Importance of the Humanities’ and ‘Blues Dharma’: Fusion music with veena, tabla, and guitar. World Book Day is Thursday 5th March.
If you have a teen at school look out for ‘Split’, which is one of the special £1 books released to mark the day this year. This is a great little story written by St Mary’s MA graduate Muhammad Khan. Muhammad has published two Young Adult novels: the award-winning I Am Thunder and Kick the Moon. Two local debut novelists are published this spring, Louise Fein’s People Like Us, the book launch is at St Mary’s University on 13 May; and Elizabeth Kay’s spellbinding literary thriller Seven Lies. I understand that Kay’s deal is worth seven figures! The events at St Mary’s University are open to the general public. More next month!
