“Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.” – W.B. Yeats
Delivering an education that generates inquisitiveness and a passion for learning is at the heart of our ethos here at Twickenham Prep School (TPS). We aim to provide an outstanding educational experience in an inspiring and nurturing environment that fosters a child’s natural sense of curiosity. The children are taught to high academic standards whilst nurturing their individuality in a supportive environment, which enables their independence and self-confidence to develop.
At TPS we strive to provide a warm, welcoming environment for our four-year-olds as they join school. We combine an excellent learning provision with an atmosphere of warmth, trust and care, developing a strong sense of community, in which all children can flourish. Our classes are small, so we can ensure a greater degree of individual attention, which enables the children to have the best start possible on their learning journeys, these are tailored to the child’s individual learning needs, advancing their strengths, and maximising their potential. Every day the children have opportunities to work individually and collaboratively, skills that are invaluable for the rest of their lives.
Strong communication skills underpin all that goes on in our Pre-Prep. The children learn how to work and play together and how to develop relationships built on respect for each other and the adults around them. Excellent levels of literacy enable TPS children to speak confidently with their peers and adults in a range of situations such as a whole-school assembly or Open Day.
Our generous staff-child ratio provides opportunities for us to run small groups to support and extend the children’s learning. The broad variety of specialist subject teaching provides the children with an exciting and varied day, every day. The vast range of co-curricular experiences enrich the children’s learning and help the children to discover their skills and talents – there is something for everyone!
Our Pre-Prep children are curious learners, and this is encouraged and developed through formal class teaching, play and exploration using the outdoors, in our Reception dedicated play space and our Forest School area. The children also enjoy weekly lessons by specialist teachers for French, Music, Computing, PE, Games, Library and Think Tank, our Thinking Skills programme.
At TPS we have a holistic approach to teaching and learning. By fostering the children’s social, emotional, physical, and academic development, our children settle quickly in their small classes and thrive in their learning as a result.
The main entry point is Reception, with limited places available in other year groups subject to assessment. If you want your child to start the journey of a lifetime please get in touch:
