We’ve Still Got it All to Play For

Rugby podcasters Will and Michael Wood give us a round-up of Harlequins news…

Haven’t we been busy! One of the most important periods of the Northern Hemisphere’s rugby calendar is well under way, and it’s starting to show for our domestic sides. Harlequins stars Smith, Dombrandt, Marler and Marchant all featuring in England’s opening games of the Six Nations campaign; Magic Man Marcus claiming Man of the Match in the Round 2 clash against ‘The Azzurri’ in Rome. Their absence, however, has been felt in the Harlequins camp. Three defeats in our last three league games has not been pretty.

What was better, however, was our latest away-day trip to The Rec to watch the boys take on Bath, under the Friday night lights. Although the result went against us, I would urge all Quins fans to make the pilgrimage west, for what is probably the best away-trip in the league. We then followed that performance by losing to Sale at home, and in our most recent off-site excursion, we travelled to StoneX Stadium to get rained on for 80 minutes and lose again to Saracens!

Hey ho. We look forward to a more fortuitous result against Wasps at home on Saturday 19th March. This is the Club’s second Annual Pride fixture. An amazing campaign, run in partnership with Harlequins’ Official LGBTQ+ Supporters Association, who we had the pleasure of talking to in a recent podcast episode. Make sure you listen to that!

Harlequins Women have also had mixed results recently with wins at home to Gloucester-Hartpury and Worcester, but falling short in ‘The Game Changer’ to Saracens. Hoping for a good run of results for us soon, which might sneak us into the Top 2 of the Allianz Premier 15s and grab a home semi-final. Maybe even a home semi-final in a Double Header at the recently announced Big Summer Kick Off. What a treat to look forward to in the early summer sunshine across the road at The Big Stoop – I can smell the pina coladas already! Look forward to seeing you all soon.
